Colloidal Silver Dosage
Written by M.D. Hamilton

Colloidal Silver dropper determining dosageThere is no standard colloidal silver dosage. Colloidal silver is classified as a pre-1938 product by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). That means it is not a drug, and is not regulated as such. Because of this, the colloidal silver dosage will vary from person to person, depending on user preference and custom.

Silver dosage in times past, long before the 20th century, was a hit-and-miss matter at best. As new methods of producing silver solutions were developed, new dosages also had to be developed. Back then, the only method of taking silver was to grind the silver into a fine dust and dissolve the powder in water. But because the silver particles were not tiny enough, nor charged with electrical impulses as present colloidal silver solutions are, they had the tendency to settle at the bottom and not remain suspended long enough to drink them.

It was impossible for those early scientists to gauge how much silver particles a person experiencing positive effects had consumed. It could be that he or she consumed only a tiny amount, with much of the silver particles left in the bottom of the container. Or the person might have consumed much of it, since silver particles from fine powder have the tendency to stick together, forming large clumps.

Colloidal silver dosage is much easier to determine. Modern technology produces colloidal silver in place of the old silver powder solutions. Colloidal silver is produced by way of electrolysis, wherein electricity is introduced into a water solution with pure silver wire soaked in it. The process allows silver particles to be drawn out of the large silver wire and into the water solution, where they remain suspended and resistant to the pull of gravity. This makes it easier for experts to calculate the colloidal silver dosage.

Colloidal silver dosage today depends more on the purpose for taking the solution than on the solution itself. For example, if you are simply taking the solution as a mineral supplement, the "standard" colloidal silver dosage is one tablespoon of 5ppm colloidal silver. This is roughly about 75 micrograms of silver, and considered safe to be taken on a daily basis.

While many people take this colloidal silver dosage as a daily supplement, others take it only on a need basis. In such cases, the generally accepted colloidal silver dosage is one ounce during a twenty-four hour period. This is called "therapeutic" colloidal silver dosage and is safe if not taken for extended periods of time.

In either of the above examples, the colloidal silver dosage applies only if the solution is taken orally. Colloidal silver may be used as a topical treatment also. Colloidal silver dosage for this method of application is usually smaller than when taken orally.
